My interest in some feminist theories got me intrigued by the concept of the “male gaze.” This concept started to be recognized and discussed in the 1970’s as it was applied to the representation of women in the media and still is today – to some degree. Women were often portrayed as sexual objects from the heterosexual male perspective. My intent for this project was to reverse the portrayal by replacing the object of the gaze by the gaze itself. My approach was to turn myself into a sexual object while becoming one with the lens. The subjects were selected from a group of strangers and people I know. The various degrees of familiarity with the subjects created different dynamics; which dictated my final selection of images.
